sweet 16 pre-game

so, im certainly not the most prolific of bloggers….
anyway, this is gonna be a pretty self-indulgent post…
new frames! and new haircut!

re-frames: i think i look like a smart cookie.
they remind me of
fran gerard
heavy-handed and obvious…i like how they
spite my face…
PS: SERIOUS TITTIES OMGEEE

……………………………………….
re-haircut: im thinkin post-fashion, 90’s bob ala My So Called Life
i dont know why i waited so long. i feel like myself again…after a long time of not looking like myself without realizing it….or something
i finally made the cut after
elle did it first…..
and then after seeing Roman Polanski’s
Repulsion and realizing that I had the same haircut as Catherine Deneuve, Polanski’s “anesthetized…inarticulate, and possibly even murderous somnambulate”…this is not the look i was going for…
but Repulsion is awesome! i watched it without knowing anything about it, so it was truly horrific and creeeeeepy. especially cause i was home
alone!
im including the trailer, but DONT WATCH IT! its full of spoilers…like, serious plot twists you dont see coming…
Repulsion, a story of one woman’s
sexual paranoia and spiraling psychosis, is the first film in Polanski’s so-called “Apartment Trilogy”, a collection of films about urban fear. Rosemary’s Baby and The Tenet are the other two, havent seen The Tenet yet…
psycho-thriller, qu’est-ce que c’est?
…………………………………………

and we saw our dear friends the Tyler Family Band play at Bettys!
featuring
Elise Tyler of Halcyon and getting married soon fame
William Tyler of Silver Jews and previous post fame
and Dan and Adelle!

adorable! love it!
………………………………………….
and it was my birthday!!
and i made a gorgeous delicious cake! strawberries soaked in
galliano with french vanilla cake and greek yogurt/heavy cream frosting
yummmmmm, i swear
bday festivities included: ladies dinner at The Smiling Elephant
which was AMAZING! i never knew that pad thai didnt have to be a greasy, heavy mess. everything was light and delicious and lovely and i highly recommend it.
and then karaoke at Ms Kelli’s downtown. its a night i nearly remember….
more pics on the flik lik likr

bonus summer fun!: pics from Loney’s bday river outingcheckit!

postcards from the edge of VA…

“in the summer time, when all the trees and leaves are green and a red bird sings, i’ll be blue, cause you dont want my love…”

Roger Miller
…ive looked all around on the internet, and this goofy bit is my favorite version…
speaking of Jim Henson…had you seen this? “Time Piece

………………………………………..

anyway, i went on vacation. i saw some stuff and did some things and here are some pics….

i watched a storm roll in at the beach with my dad. it passed us by though. when my father was a kid he was struck by lightning at the beach. he was shot in the eye with a be be gun too, but thats something else…
baby muscles feasting on some tasty waves…

this teal color was following me around everywhere…in the absynth my father poured me, on a door at my friends house, cars and sky and water….

and we took a ride on a ferry, the Pocahontas, and the gulls were doing their best to keep up…
………………………………………….

and then i went to richmond and went thrifting with mom. found this defaced gene autry comic book and brought this Nashville souvenir back to its rightful home…small world….

and we had an early birthday dinner at the Jefferson hotel. quite ritzy but not stuck up…we had two desserts and i ordered a drink that somehow tasted like bacon…? (gin+honey+thyme=meat?)
…………………………………………..

and then back home!
to nashville!
to the fourth of july!
or as ben calls it, Nashville’s New Year….(which is true, i first moved here on July 4th)….
so anyway, New Year’s Eve, July 3rd, Elle and i met some friends and did a little slipn and slide’n

i had to work on the 4th of Joolee so, no drinkin no grillin for me. but the club had a 10million dollar fireworks display, and i had a seat front row center. so it was worth it.
and now backwards….

more pics if you care on the flick flick flicka

feelin 2foot small…

so, this is going to be a pre-vacation post…
just “clearing the decks” of blog miscellany…
also, im working on a mix tape for you…so theres that to look forward to…
although, lately there hasnt been much music i care to listen to…
indeed i hardly even care to SEE a foot in front my face…
exhaustion i guess…a bored, lost and passionless feeling that extends beyond music taste…
anyway this lackluster feeling prompted me to look back at old obsessions…
eek-a-mouse’s “skidip” was one of my favorite albums when i was around 5yrs old…

i think part of this sullen introspection stems from my new habit of watching Dexter back to back to back till 4am…
have you SEEN this show? real deep stuff man, psycho killer trying to appear normal, even though he doesnt understand feelings or selflessness. but he does it to survive…

dont we all…
“silently adapting to the customs of the people theyre watching”
have you seen this? youve probably seen this….

…………………………………….
so, some past obsessions im just now acknowledging!!
THE STATE!

its on netflix watch instantly and i could NOT stop watching it…
takes me back to the days when Comedy Central aired
Kids in the Hall

………………………….

“teen bulletin board”–charles burns
and then, i started reading Charles Burns’ graphic novel “Black Hole” and finished it in one sitting.
and im never having sex again. read it and you shall know it…

thats what we call, “the bunny dip”…

bouquet garden…

we dont talk anymore…
ive been busy! full time job job job jobjob job job money making, making me crazy
compensating for a brain-dead job with brain-dead partying
and so theres not much time to write, or read, or sleep or clean my room or talk to my mommy and daddy on the phone….
its really not that bad….im working at the Richland Country Club as a server….ive never actually worked in the restaurant industry before, so its still new and interesting enough. and ive always enjoyed cultural voyeurism…and the particulars of formal dining intrigue me…
and i get to wear all black with a mandarin collar, just like emma peel
and a long bistro apron, which makes us rather resemble pinhead really…

………………………………………………….

but somehow, even though i am a serious professional now, i found the time to make some new sweeties for local honeyyyy.
kind of friendship bracelet bracelets…woven id bracelet type things…
some are doubles, some are inverted colors, to keep with the friendship theme. go get em! and then we’ll be bffs! and have ice cream sleepover pool parties….

………………………………………………….

so, the other day i decided to watch Bob Fosse’s Star 80 based purely on this poster image…and, as with any story of sex and violence, i was completely enthralled.
a) the soundtrack features disco-era Roddy Rod Stewart
b) its about Playboy centerfold queen, Dorothy Stratten, a naive ingenue who is murdered by her insanely possessive estranged husband, Paul Snider (who turns out to be a necro…..SPOILER)
the films a little cheezy, but Eric Roberts is mesmerizing as Snider….and very teethy

heres the real Doroty Stratten in “Galaxina“, a comedy sci-fi (wait, a comedy sci-fi?) where Stratten plays a “robotic beauty” space pilot.
it is now at the top of my netflix cue.

apparantly there was also a made for tv version of the Dorothy Stratten story, “Death of a Centerfold” where Dorothy was played by Jamie Lee Curtis….AS IF…
horse-face killah :-p……

one of these things is not like the other….

………………………………………………..
heres a bonus HA, skeez ball Paul Snider:

and some bonus aaaaahhhhs mariel mariel:

is anything important, no, i dont know…

ive got a serious obsession with Ariel Pink going on…i literally cant stop listening to this song. it has surpassed Kate Bush’s “Hounds of Love” in my itunes play count….
but yeah, his new album “Before Today” is floating around out there on the internet. id say a bit more solid and produced than his other albums, and totally has a Hall and Oates vibe.
but this obsession…has something to do with that hair of his. if i were a boy, i would have the longest california summer z-boy hair imaginable. some Bowie/androgyny dichotomy left over from highschool makes me want pixie cuts on ladies and devil-may-care length on fellas. an idea discussed further in a previous post of mine….
which i just realized!!! is from a year ago…i missed my anniversary! my first post was march 09!

…………………………………………………………

another anniversary this year is that of “Pee Wee’s Big Adventure”, which is 25 years old this August. as old as me.
i have always loved him.

more about “Queen of The Sun Teaser Clip“, posted with vodpod

so, elle was working at the nashville film fest this past month and i got to see “Queen of the Sun” with her. it was poetic and beautiful, shot in france and new zealand and…portland…
the story is “a piercing examination of the global bee crisis seen through the eyes of beekeepers, scientists, farmers, and philosophers”. while the film talked about the problems and solutions with “renewing a culture in balance with nature”, it didnt cast any entity as a villain necessarily. the film discussed our whole culture’s
remiss behavior towards bees. we have a responsibility to create a safe habitat for bees and our development, pesticides and mono-agriculture have made it nearly impossible for them to be a successful species.
anyway, its a very interesting topic and a serious problem. elle and i have been dreaming of a hive in the back yard…

………………………………………………..

and i also saw this! Nishimura’s vampire girl vs frankenstein girl! wild wild wild! a couple people left the theatre during the obscenely bloody opening scene. think, japanese director referencing quentin tarrantino as he references a different japanese director…gore upon gore.
………………………………………………..

and also i made a pie! and i took a terrible picture of it!
strawberry rhubarb in honor of the coming summer…
although with all the cinnamon, i always think straw/barb pie tastes like christmas

twist

blog post number 94: in which i mostly obsess about my hair.
but first things first…i got some new dance moves for the summah………

……………………………………………

ugh, brigitte bardot…you are why my hair is long…(also look at that coloring, shes all pink, gold and black)….
sadly, once it got to length, my hair could not be made into sexy bedtime ringlets like hers without a lot of persuasion…i get more of the pin straight jane birkin/heavy bangs look….which is not bad…

i dunno, i think i wanna cut it all off. perhaps just to spite all the time i put into it….and also its only april, but the sweat is already killing me….length = heat!…
…………………………………….

anyway, the other night we watched Class of 1984, which ben remembered watching on ABC as the daytime movie special when he was a kid….its this over the top horror film about punk gangs in high school. its trying REALLY hard to be Clockwork Orange (theres a scene where the main punk is whistling a cheery tune as he rapes this woman)…its ridiculous, and takes a bizarre revenge twist. i love when hollywood takes a crack at the teen scene.
and then Canadian band Teenage Head make a guest appearance as the punk pied pipers of teen violence…

and BABY micheal j. fox is in it…
and that would be the token punk chick, Patsy, licking his face. she had my eye the entire film…shes a summer influence…

yes, thats a shoelace tied underneath her bangs, marilyn monroe tank, short shorts, geometric leather, driving gloves and coca cola….and here: an
outrageous cave-lady/ruffled lizard leather outfit complete with cicciolina eyebrows….
and check the bangs….super tuff…i might have to go for the pink wash dye job…

and so, rather than cutting off all my hair, im settling for 1984 bangs/j.lo punk…note the unicorn glitter tattoo…SASSITUDE….

obsess…obsess…obsess…obsess…obsess…obsess…obsess…obsess…
here are some bonus pics of previously mentioned Cicciolina ( Miss. ilona Staller, Italian politician, porn star and former wife of jeff koons)
via wiki:

“While in office, before the outset of the Gulf War she offered to have sex with Saddam Hussein if he would release his foreign hostages…in April 2006 she made the same offer to Osama bin Laden.”
bad ass bitch….

spring again…

“what should i do” by the shaggs has been in my head forever today….it starts at 3:00 up in that boob tube…
ugh, theres a mouse pitter pattering around my room, refusing to get caught by humane peanut butter contraptions….
and ugh, ALLERGIES began today…ugh Nashville Spring, swimming in a basin of pollen, i die….
…………………………….
some new things! i got my new glasses in the mailll…new frames, no lenses, and rufus…i like ’em…

old frames, old lenses

which do you think? what do you think? 4eyezz dont smile…
……………………………..

and soo i brought a bunch of headbands over to local honey…these are reversible white vinyl with black and red (also in gold), and then up-cycled brown suede…and then both with gold and red embroidery floss. cute! go buy ’em.
here are the little tags i made for them too in two different color ways and the back with my label name or whatever…

…………………………..

on beautiful/decay’s blog, i found this link to Isabella Rosellini’s “Green Porno”, a series of short films for the Sundance Channel, where Isabella acts out the mating rituals of various sea-life and insects. Isabella’s candid and sexy performances are delightful, hardly pornographic but sometimes blush-inducing. and i love all the Michel Gondry-esque costumes and props. watch them all, its worth it.
its interesting…in most of them Isabella chooses to act out the role of the male animal. i guess theyve got a lot to prove in the animal world? ive always thought it was rather bizarre, that male animals, specifically birds,
always have the brightest plumage and the female of the species is usually just brown or drab. i feel like in humans its reversed and that females do all the preening and colorful ornamentation. but i guess, men have to do physical performances of masculinity and worthiness….
hm, anyway, an Isabella bonus:
with David Lynch, her domestic partner (followed by Gary Oldman)…

and then as Perdita in Lynch’s “Wild at Heart”…ai yi yi…
